    Descripción


    Antidiabético oral del grupo de las sulfonilureas. Estimula la secreción pancreática de insulina y probablemente también potencia su acción en los tejidos. Su efectividad depende de las reservas insulínicas del páncreas.
    Las sulfonilureas tienen un potente efecto hipoglucemiante (reducción de 1-2% de HbA1c), mayor que los inhibidores DPP-4 o SGLT2 o los análogos GLP-1, y han demostrado reducir el riesgo de complicaciones microvasculares en diabéticos tipo 2 (estudio UKPDS, Lancet 1999). Sin embargo, después de la insulina, son los que mayor riesgo tienen de provocar hipoglucemia y aumento de peso. Gliclazida, glimepirida y glipizida son, por este orden, las que menos hipoglucemias y aumento de peso producen, y tienen un menor riesgo de mortalidad por cualquier causa (Simpson et al, Lancet 2014).
