Descripción
Alfa y beta-bloqueante no cardioselectivo (beta-1 y beta-2) sin actividad simpaticomimética intrínseca. Por su acción beta-bloqueante reduce la frecuencia cardiaca, relaja la musculatura lisa vascular, contrae la musculatura lisa bronquial y reduce el metabolismo glucídico dependiente de las catecolaminas. Por su acción bloqueante alfa-1 origina vasodilatación y disminuye la resistencia vascular periférica. Carvedilol ha demostrado reducir la mortalidad y el riesgo de hospitalización en pacientes con insuficiencia cardiaca (estudio COPERNICUS, Circulation 2002).
